Two-alarm house fire causes $475,000 in damage

A fire caused major damage to a two-story home in San Mateo on Wednesday evening, fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to reports of a fire on the first floor of a home at 29 Otay Ave. at about 7:15 a.m., according to the San Mateo Fire Department.

Arriving crews saw flames coming from the rear of the home, fire officials said. One person who was home at the time escaped without injury.

The two-alarm blaze was extinguished by 41 firefighters in about two hours.

Fire officials estimated damage from the fire to be about $475,000.

The cause remains under investigation.

Firefighters from Cal Fire and the Central County and Foster City fire departments assisted San Mateo.
