A 2-year-old boy who was fatally shot at an Antioch apartment late Thursday morning has been identified as Jyonn Carr, a Contra Costa County deputy coroner said Friday.

Jyonn, whose second birthday was Thursday, was fatally shot around 11:30 a.m. in an apartment on Lemontree Court, Deputy Coroner Steve Cusas said.

He was in a bedroom with his 4-year-old brother when a gun recently purchased by his mother somehow went off, Antioch police Lt. Leonard Orman said.

His parents, Eddie Lee Carr, 27, and Laqinda Modique, 28, were arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment with death, and of reckless storage of a firearm, Orman said.

Carr was also arrested on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He has previous weapons and assault convictions, and was recently discharged from parole.
