NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. — Authorities say a man found floating in Newport Harbor has been pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Newport Beach Police Sgt. Shontel Sherwood says two kayakers found the 49-year-old man facedown in the water near the Orange Coast College seabase Saturday morning. He was pronounced dead a short time later at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian.

Sherwood says the circumstances of the death are not being viewed as suspicious.

The man's identity has been withheld, pending family notification. Police say he was a local resident.
