REDWOOD CITY, CALIF. — The San Mateo County Coroner's office has conducted an autopsy to determine how a Palo Alto man, whose body was found decomposing in a covered public swimming pool, died.

Authorities on Saturday identified the body as that of 21-year-old Gabriel Estrada Contreras.

Contreras' body was found Thursday at the Hoover Park city pool by a maintenance worker responding to neighbors' complaints about a foul smell.

The pool was covered and has been closed since July.

Police do not know when Contreras died.
