Anchorage man accused of series of rapes

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA — A 43-year-old Anchorage man has been accused of being a serial rapist responsible for five assaults in the past eight years.

Richard Dorsey was charged Tuesday with 13 charges, including rape, assault and attempted murder.

Dorsey was out on bail awaiting sentencing on a separate sex assault conviction when he was picked up and jailed in Anchorage with bail set at $100,000 cash.

The Anchorage Daily News reports the break in the case came in March when Dorsey drank from a cup during the assault trial for sticking his hand up a woman's skirt in 2006. Police seized the cup as evidence and DNA matched semen from an unsolved rape.

Dorsey is from California and moved to Alaska with the Army in 1997. He has been the subject of 18 court cases in Alaska. Court records show he was convicted at a court martial in Germany in 1994 for weapons violations and larceny, and convicted of patronizing a prostitute in 1997 in Washington.
