Zodiac may be late SoCal man

April 30, 2009

Proof? Deborah Perez says she still has the glasses of slain cabbie Paul Stine, which would back up her story that her father was the infamous Zodiac Killer. (CINDY CHEW/THE EXAMINER)

SAN FRANCISCO — A Southern California woman has claimed that her father was the infamous Zodiac Killer — and that as a 7-year-old she accompanied him on two of the murders.

The Zodiac Killer’s identity has remained a mystery to investigators since the person terrorized the Bay Area in the late 1960s.
Deborah Perez held a news conference Wednesday in The City to announce that her father, Guy Ward Hendrickson, who died in 1983, was the wanted man.

Her father went through periods of mental illness, she said.

Perez, who is now taking part in a documentary about the crime spree, also said she wrote some of the killer’s letters to authorities.

The glasses worn by slain San Francisco cab driver Paul Stine, which she said her father took from the crime scene, are still in her possession, Perez said. She hopes forensic testing will prove her claims are true.

Attorney Kevin McLean, who led an independent investigation, offered reports from a handwriting analyst and forensic psychologist supporting Perez’s story. However, he offered no DNA, fingerprint or weapons testing to distinguish her assertion from the scores of people who have come forward through the years claiming to know the Zodiac Killer’s identity.

Perez said she had never heard of the Zodiac Killer until she saw a composite drawing on America’s Most Wanted several years ago and, after looking at letters online, determined it was her father. Hendrickson had confessed to his daughter that he had killed people, but never said he was the Zodiac Killer, she said.

The family was living in Orange County when she accompanied her father on a trip to Vallejo on July 4, 1969 — the day Darlene Ferrin was fatally shot and Michael Mageau was wounded.

Hendrickson and his daughter had visited Ferrin earlier in the day, and Hendrickson and Ferrin had argued “viciously” minutes before the killings.

Hendrickson was waiting in a car when her father shot the couple, she said.

Months later, Perez was also left waiting in a car when her father shot Stine as he sat in his cab in Presidio Heights on Oct. 11, 1969, she said.

San Francisco police Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said the group had given investigators a DVD, which they plan to review.

FBI Special Agent Joseph Schadler had no comment on the case.

Zodiac revealed?

Deborah Perez claims her deceased father was the infamous killer.

Evidence presented:

  • Letter from forensic psychologist Jack N. Singer, stating that after examining Deborah Perez, he can say “unequivocally that there is absolutely no evidence of deception, delusional thinking or loss of contact with reality”
  • Analysis from Bart Baggett, expert document examiner, determining that Deborah Perez likely wrote three letters believed to be written by the Zodiac Killer; however, Baggett notes his opinion is “preliminary and qualified,” since it is based on Perez’s handwriting now, not as a 7- to 9-year-old child

Evidence that may be forthcoming:

  • DNA or prescription match on glasses purported to belong to victim Paul Stine
  • DNA evidence on stamps and envelopes on Zodiac letters sealed by Perez

Although compelling, the one DEFINITIVE and IRREFUTABLE piece of proof would be to do DNA profile of Deborah Perez and compare it to the DNA profile from the saliva on the stamp posted on one of the known envelopes from the Zodiac killer; if you get a 50% DNA match against her father then this one would be CLOSED. Is there a reason no one has done this simple test??

according to the state bar of california, mr. mclean was disbarred in september of 2008. given that, his word is less than believeable. from the video, it appears clear that fame is a motivating factor in this new revelation. why else have a press conference to say you were a witness to events and draw attention to yourself? oh yeah, the soon to be documentary. always an angle...

The Zodiac killer & George Bush.

Here is how the ruling class protects its assassins. Melvin Belli was the attorney for Jack Ruby. I have a 1 hour video taped interview with Belli, in his office, in which I show Belli all the FBI document proving Ruby was a paid assassin for Richard Nixon. Belli sat there & tried to deny ever having seen these documents. Yet when we looked in his own Ruby file, there were the same FBI documents. Belli knew Ruby, George Bush sr., & E. Howard Hunt were all part of the same CIA team assigned by Dulles to kill President Kennedy for stopping the Vietnam war, JFK Executive Order#263.
The CIA attorney’s, like Belli just wait until the assassins, like Geo Bush are dead, before they write their books & reveal the true name of the assassins, like they are doing with the Zodiac. Don’t be conned by their lies.

I AGREE WITH MR. TRENT. HE MAKES A VALID AND SIMPLE POINT. WHY THE COMEBACK FROM "HOMELESS WAIF", THAT SOUNDED JUST PLAIN IGNORANT? HE/SHE MUST NOT WATCH TEE VEE. DID "HOMELESS WAIF" NOT GET AN EDUCATION? AND WHO USES "TEE VEE" AS A REFERNCE TO TV AKA TELEVISION?

A mentally ill man was the zodiac killer.

President Kennedy was killed by a Leftist.

dna on envelope was that of a woman per the book/movie just done so thats why it did not match any of the men thought to be zodiac. if this gal wrote and licked the envelopes to seal them and its a match to her -- thats the end of the search folks

I think there is a better chance of finding her DNA on the genitalia of a Tijuana donkey than under one of the Zodiac's stamps

1PAT & Mister Trent

So let me get this straight...you two think that you can pull enough saliva off a stamp that was licked almost over 40 years ago and get a legitimate sample of DNA, and then it will still just so happen to be in the premium condition to withstand DNA testing?

Those of you commenting on this story about grassy knolls and CIA conspiracies need to include your version of the Hale-Bopp Comet-UFO cult suicides and the Sasquatch carcass being kept by E.T.'s at Area 51 in Nevada.

There are no doubt things to DNA test, as the SFPD have a partial DNA profile for Zodiac (obtained from envelopes), but there's no point in testing her unless she licked the envelopes herself as she is adopted.

From what I read there are two DNA profiles on the envelopes. I belive they're always had been two indiviuals involved in the killings. They can easyily determine if MS.Perez was invovled by doinf a y chromosome DNA test. This chromosome is only found in females.
