SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco has already initiated a relationship with China to spur economic development, and India may be the next in line.

The sister relationship between Bangalore and San Francisco has become such a hit for business that The City is open to expanding that relationship, although the concept is in its early stages, according to Michael Cohen with the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development.

The City and the Chamber of Commerce unveiled ChinaSF in November — a product of another sister city agreement, with Shanghai. Newsom flew to China to set up an office in Shanghai dedicated to wooing Chinese development in San Francisco and met with Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng.

So far, three companies have set up San Francisco offices since the initiative began. Trina Solar, English-language daily newspaper China Daily and biotech company SPRIM.
