Same-sex marriage supporters continued to rally throughout the weekend in defiance of the passage of Proposition 8, which banned such nuptials in California.
“This is something that is not stopping,” said Supervisor Bevan Dufty, who rallied with hundreds of demonstrators outside the Mormon Temple in Oakland on Sunday. “We had about 25,000 people marching in San Francisco, and I’m heartened by how many straight people I see at these protests.”
Thousands of Prop. 8 opponents protesters marched up Market Street on Friday night to express their disappointment and outrage.
Same-sex marriage supporters fanned out in areas such as Orange County and Sacramento, where the proposition found more support.
In Sacramento, about 2,500 protesters gathered Sunday at the Capitol.
