Peter Finch

Peter Finch, the voice of the KFOG Morning Show weekdays from 5 to 10 a.m., wrote the play “Aaron Trotter and the Incident at Bikini Beach,” in which the protagonist must solve the mystery of his long-lost parents. It will be performed at EXIT Theatre, 156 Eddy St. in San Francisco, Friday through Aug. 15. Tickets are $18-$22 and available at www.brownpapertickets.com.

Is this the first play you have written and will it be your last? No, this isn’t the first play I have written. The first one was called “Aaah, Rosebud!” and it was “Citizen Kane” with zombies. I have a new idea for another one but we’ll see. Hopefully, this won’t be my last.

What is “Aaron Trotter and the Incident at Bikini Beach” about? It’s a genre mash up. It’s Harry Potter meets 1960s beach movies.

How did you come up with the idea for the play? Well, it started as a joke. The first play I had written, the characters had to wear winter coats, and so backstage I joked, “You just wait and see, next play I’ll put you all in bathing suits.” And so I did.

What is the most rewarding thing about this experience? Writing a play is a leap of faith; there are no guarantees that it will get picked up and performed. When someone agrees to stage something I write, it is satisfying. It’s an incredible rush when a talented group of actors perform your work.
