Newsmaker: Sen. Barack Obama

Staff Report 8/18/08

SAN FRANCISCO – The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee held a private fundraiser at the Westin St. Francis on Sunday, weeks after his likely rival, Sen. John McCain, held his own fundraiser at the hotel.

Obama entered through a back entrance and made no public appearance as several supporters, and a few protesters, waited outside. Hundreds paid up to $2,300 a plate to have dinner with Obama while some paid $14,000 for a photo opportunity and VIP reception.
