More than 800 homeowners granted a reduction in assessed value

October 7, 2008

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco assessor-recorder announced that his office has completed all the requests by city homeowners for a temporary reduction in assessed value.

The average reduction citywide was 11.5 percent, or $137,057. Of the 1,673 reviews requested for residential properties, 810 have been granted a reduction.

As a result, San Francisco’s overall property roll value decreased by nearly $96 million, which translates into a $1.1 million decrease in property taxes paid to The City.

Something smells fishy in the assessor-recorder department. More info/investigation is needed on how they determined who got the reductions in property value. Favoritism? Strings pulled?
