Man arrested for allegedly shooting at officers

Wire reports
June 26, 2009

SAN FRANCISCO — A man shot at officers from inside his touristy hotel room in San Francisco's Marina District early this morning during a two-hour standoff, according a police sergeant.

Waddell Williams, 33, was arrested around 1 a.m. on suspicion of attempted murder for shooting at the officers, assault with a deadly weapon and illegally possessing a firearm, Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said.

Police responded to shots fired from a room in the Chelsea Motor Inn at Lombard and Webster streets around 11 p.m. When the first two officers arrived, police said Williams shot through the door at them.

The officers took cover and called for back up, Tomioka said.

He was in police custody within two hours, she said.

Williams was staying at the hotel but she did not know where he was from, how long he had been staying there or why he fired the shots.

No one was injured.

Why can't the SFPD get a Public Information Officer who can release some facts of the incidents. There is no fathomable reason why they sit so tightly on information spooned out to the media. I KNOW Fong was terrified of the press but she's gone now. SFPD needs to rebuild their sad and pathetic relationship with the media. Work together as you did in the Old Days.

God Bless our SFPD officers who risk their lives everyday to keep us safe.

Mr. Thomas, Fong is still the chief, and just as the last 5 years have been, nothing will change or improve until she moves out of the fifth floor (of the Hall of Justice). The officers were standing just outside the hotel door when the suspect shot through it at the officers. They are lucky to be alive! Thank you Ms. Freethy. I wish more people would recognize the daily danger that we face, gladly, for the city!

Its a good thing that shooting was near the Ihop, i am sure they were very prompt with their arrival. I just moved out of the tenderloin, and I have no respect for SFPD in that district after living in the TL and looking for justice from a few incidents. Not to worry though the message I got from sfpd was to handle it myself, and now i do. Not the smartest way to do things but my last resort. I will acknowledge that a San fran cops job is dangerous, but i will not acknowledge the majority do a good job especially the TL officers.

I'm not saying that I am not grateful for the risk that SFPD officers everyday, its just that i have been harassed more times than i have been helped...one time even assaulted. I sincerely believe that this city's police need a reality check on who their real enemies are...kudos to the hard working officers who go without foul intentions.
