The radio personality who hosts “JV Mornings” on WILD 94.9 in San Francisco — and who was a member of CBS’s popular “Dog House” — launched a new online media show on Revision3.com called “JV’s World.”
Why launch an online show? Why not stick with radio or television? If you aren’t starting to make that transition [to online formats], you’re going to be on a sinking ship. There’s so much more freedom online, so much more that you can do so that people can get who you are.
How do you gather content for your show? I feel like going more in the direction of whatever is going on in my world. For example, in my next episode ... I want to do a whole thing on bed bugs. [My wife and I recently] had a case of bed bugs.
What are a few of the strategies to making listeners tune in to you regularly? To be honest with you, I’m lucky enough to have a name where people are coming back and saying, “Oh, that’s a familiar voice.” Because anyone now trying to make a name for themselves, it’s like, “Good luck.” The crazy [stuff] I did, you just can’t do that anymore.
How has the economy affected radio? Now, with the economy, stations can’t afford to lose a dime. In the old days, one advertiser went away, no problem. But there’s not a lot of advertising dollars out there right now. I hope [radio] sticks around and I can do it forever. But I’d be stupid not to look at other things.
