Four appearances planned for Newsom on Day 3

According to the mayor's office, Newsom will begin his day at noon by giving brief remarks at a forum hosted by the NDN, a progressive-policy think tank formerly known as the New Democratic Network. Other speakers featured in the session, which will take place at the Westin Hotel, include progressive blogger Arianna Huffington, Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., and Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richard. The focus of the discussion will be “A Better Tomorrow.”
Directly following his appearance at the NDN forum, Newsom will scoot across town to participate in a tour of Denver’s Housing First sites, the mayor's office said. Housing First, an initiative to shift homeless persons out of the street and into homes, is present in cities across the nation, including San Francisco.
After the tour, Newsom will get to rest his feet for a few hours before gearing up for two events in the evening.
At 8 p.m., Newsom will host “Unconventional 08,” a rock concert featuring a collection of independent bands, with the aim to attract and galvanize young Democrats at the convention, the mayor's office said. Scheduled performances include Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie and Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley, among several others.
Newsom will have an hour to enjoy the music before making his last stop of the day, where he will co-host the Voto Latino reception, a gathering to encourage young Latino Democrats to vote. The meeting will take place at Vinyl, a nightclub in downtown Denver.
On Tuesday, Newsom participated in a panel sponsored by Time Magazine, by which he was recently named one of five Democrat “Hotshots to Watch.” He also co-hosted an event called “Taste of American Cities.”
San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera, also in Denver for the convention, had a meeting with Jim Martin, a U.S. Senate candidate from Georgia at 10:30 a.m. today, spokesman Matt Dorsey said.
Herrera also met with Federico Pena, former Secretary of Transportation under Bill Clinton, and attended a gathering of delegates committed to Hillary Clinton, Dorsey said.
