Flash floods reported throughout city

SAN FRANCISCO — Sewers overloaded and drains clogged in heavy rain Monday afternoon, causing flash flooding throughout The City.

San Francisco Public Utilities Commission day crews were working overtime at 5:15 p.m. in an effort to unclog drains that were leading to flooded intersections, according to SFPUC spokesman Tyrone Jue.

Flooding caused by overloaded sewers was subsiding without the assistance of SFPUC crews as water pressure in the drains returned to normal, according to Jue.

Amateur video showed dilute sewage spraying out of the sewer system at the corner of Powell and Francisco streets, according to Jue.

After flooding has subsided, SFPUC crews will inspect affected drains, according to Jue.

The Laurel Heights neighborhood was badly affected by flash floods, according to Jue.

Van Ness Station was flooded and closed Monday, throwing peak hour Muni services into havoc.

San Francisco’s sewer and storm water systems are combined, which can cause the system to overload and overflow during storms.

what have all the well-paid city employees that WE PAY to take care of this kind of thing been doing since last week's rains ended? Obviously after the first rain of the season, the drains would be clogged and needing attention. HELLO?!? Oh wait, let's give money to other nations instead of keeping our streets from flooding during a mild rain. This is getting ridiculous folks.

SOMA Streets Cleaned

At least for afew more days. The rain washed 80 percent of the "light" did. The human waste would take 2.5 inches of rain like last week. But the urine smell is gone for now. It will be back soon. I dont like the shorter day days but I do like the relief from the constant stench.

This isn't even reporting - five of your seven sentences end in "according to Jue." Could you take five minutes to compose a better article?
