Chain restaurant fee up for a vote

SAN FRANCISCO — Mayor Gavin Newsom's proposal to impose a fee on chain restaurants in The City comes up for a final vote before the full Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

The ordinance is intended to recover the cost of enforcing health and safety regulations that require restaurants to disclose the nutritional and calorie content of food they serve.

A restaurant is considered a chain if there are 20 or more branches located in the state.
