Man stabbed to death near Golden Gate Park

June 17, 2009

SAN FRANCISCO — A man was found stabbed to death in a parking lot near Golden Gate Park on Wednesday morning, marking the first homicide in San Francisco in over two weeks.

Officers found the body of the man, who has not been identified, at 2:30 a.m. in the west end of the parking lot of Kezar Stadium, which is located on Stanyan Street, according to Sgt. Lyn Tomioka of the San Francisco Police Department.

The police department’s Park Station abuts the Kezar parking lot, although Tomioka said the area where the man’s body was found was on the opposite side of the expanse. Police do not how long the body lay undiscovered, Tomioka said. Information was not available  about the man’s age, race, and residence.

No suspects have been arrested in case, which is currently under investigation, Tomioka said.

The homicide was the first in The City since May 31, when two men were killed in separate shootings.

There are now 21 recorded homicides in San Francisco in 2009. Last year at this time, there were 48 killings in The City.
