A Redwood City teenager who traveled to Southern California in June to audition for “American Idol” made the first cut and is headed to the next round of auditions.

Gabriela Holzwarth, 19, was among 11,000 would-be stars who stood in line at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena for hours June 30 in hopes of impressing judges with her singing ability. Swarmed by media after her audition, she said she was asked to come back for the next audition.

Reached by cell phone Holzwarth told The Examiner she was barred from speaking to the media about her experience until the show airs in January. She did confirm, however, that she has another audition this month.

Holzwarth reportedly arrived at the arena at 4:30 a.m. and proceeded to play her violin while waiting in line, according to the Whittier Daily News.

The ninth season of the popular talent contest is scheduled to air starting in January, according to Fox, the show’s network.

Auditions for the season began in Boston on June 14 and have since been held in Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas and Los Angeles.

Auditions are taking place this week in Orlando, Fla., and next week in Denver.
