SAN FRANCISCO — Some years, San Franciscans have the chance to see fireworks. Other years, they can only envision them through the rainbow-tinted fog.
This year, it should be a close call, said National Weather Service forecaster Steve Anderson. Low clouds and fog will be rolling in, as they have every night this week, but they may not reach the vicinity of Pier 39 by 9:30 p.m., where The City’s official fireworks show takes place.
Serious fireworks enthusiasts should consider shows in Foster City, Redwood City or Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, where fog likely will not roll in till past midnight, Anderson said. The East Bay shows should be clear as well.
“Once that sun goes down, the fog starts creeping in, but by 9:30 p.m. it might not have reached The Embarcadero. We might luck out,” Anderson said. “All we can do is keep our fingers crossed.”
