Jo Schuman Silver, the producer of “Beach Blanket Babylon” -- The City’s long-running, wild musical revue -- invites young performers to apply for the annual BBB Scholarship for the Arts award. The deadline is April 27.

Can you talk a bit about the honors?
Winners in three categories — singing, acting and dance — each get $10,000 scholarships toward higher education.

Who can apply, and what’s the process? It’s open to all Bay Area high school seniors. This year, for the first time, performers can apply online. Visit www.beachblanketbabylon.com/scholarship for details.

What’s next? On June 4, three finalists in each category perform at Club Fugazi in front of family, friends and a panel of celebrity judges, who will select the winners.

Have previous winners gone on to success? Yes! Our first dance winner, in 2002, Tracy Shibata, recently was on “American Idol” dancing with Nicki Minaj. Peter Curshin, 2003 dance winner, was on Broadway in the revival of “West Side Story,” and Katee Shean, 2006 dance winner, was voted top female dancer on “So You Think You Can Dance.”

What’s most exciting about the awards for you? While the talent always has been there, the kids have gotten more sophisticated since we started a decade ago.
