Melanie Yunk, the founding president of Roaring Pajamas, a consulting agency that helps businesses set up social media marketing campaigns and digital strategies, received the San Carlos Chamber of Commerce Member of the Year award Thursday for her volunteerism with the chamber and community.

What does it mean to you to receive this honor? There are so many talented, accomplished and deserving people in the chamber, so to be honored ... is humbling.

How did you react to the news? I was shocked, really, because I feel like I don’t do enough.

One thing you did was help San Carlos proclaim Social Media Day. Can you tell us about that? I helped the chamber approach the city and we received a proclamation. It was kind of cool.

What inspired you to give back to your community? I’m a longtime member of the Junior League of Palo Alto Mid-Peninsula. And I have chaired and sat on an advisory board for a nonprofit in East Palo Alto, the Rosalie Rendu Center. I’ve just always been involved in the community and I believe that it’s important.
