Deena Malkina, the founder and CEO of San Francisco-based Beautybloc.com, explains why the deals website for beauty products and services rivals sites such as Groupon.

How does the website work? We are posting one deal per week, with intentions to post one a day later on. People can sign up and receive the deal to their email account or can follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

What types of deals do you have? We focus on 50 to 90 percent-off deals. We have had 67 percent off facials and $5 for a $10 gift card for a salon in the past.

Why is Beautybloc.com different than other deals websites? We are more focused and specific. People know exactly what they are getting — beauty products and services — not irrelevant deals. Vendors then get higher-quality clients that are specifically interested in their services and products. We have a highly coveted demographic, with the core being highly educated women. We also put measures in place to make sure vendors aren’t burned by deals, so we can limit the volume of sales based on their needs.
