Film enthusiast Halfdan Hussey is the co-founder of Silicon Valley’s Cinequest — www.cinequest.org. Now in its 21st year, the festival features films, panels and events. It runs through Sunday in the South Bay.

What excites you most about this year’s festival? I think that it’s gotten so big. Last year we had 85,000 people.

How does this year differ from last year’s festival? We were championing digital years ago and everyone was laughing at us. Every year we’re looking at what’s new in that area, and this year we’ll be looking at how to utilize cell phones, and discussing the pros and cons of 3-D technology.

Will we be going to movie theaters in 10 years or are we going to be watching films on iPhones, iPads and computers? Six years ago, I would have expected theaters to have taken a major dive, but that’s not the way it’s going. I don’t see human beings diminishing their need to be with other people. As wonderful as it is to connect virtually, it doesn’t replace that social need to get out of the house, and the shared experience of watching a film.
