Mayor Ed Lee, along with 30 counterparts from across the nation, appears in a new video message that urges Congress to pass more stringent gun control laws.
Anti-gun violence organization is behind the campaign, which is co-chaired by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino.
Lee can be seen twice in the video, once talking about the “front-line” role that mayors must play to
combat gun violence.
“No more consoling families,” Lee says. “No more calls in the middle of the night.”
The public service announcement comes amid polling numbers released last week that showed widespread support for background checks. Conducted by Douglas E. Schoen LLC, results among 21 statewide polls was 86 percent in favor.
