One of my family members brought an Entertainment Weekly story to my attention: Fox is planning a drama for next season called “Gang Related” about “a gang member who is sent in to infiltrate the San Francisco Police Department.”
Police Chief Greg Suhr confirmed that we do, in fact, have a gang task force, but he has not been contacted by anyone from the show.
Lauren Machado of the Film Commission explained that any time there is a film that is related to San Francisco, the commission reaches out to the studio to let them know about our rebate program, as cost is often the barrier to filming here. Presumably, Fox will need “detailed justification” for shooting in San Francisco and not some other place like New Orleans or Vancouver, British Columbia.
One production that chose to film in San Francisco remains untitled. In April, HBO will begin filming a pilot for a comedy about gay life in The City. The Film Commission has been coordinating with the production, and if the show is picked up, subsequent episodes will be filmed in our fair city. Just don’t ask to see the catering bill.
