Details of Mayor Ed Lee’s city budget proposal will remain unknown until next Friday — but it apparently includes pay raises for elected officials.

Members of the Board of Supervisors, the mayor and other high-ranking elected officials are receiving pay hikes next fiscal year.

The 11 supervisors will receive a 2.9 percent cost-of-living adjustment, bringing their salary to $105,723 apiece.

Other elected officials salaries underwent a salary resetting, which occurs every five years. These officials are on a different salary setting schedule than the supervisors. Under that resetting, the average compensation paid to similar positions in the Bay Area is used.

Based on that calculation, which is required under voter-approved city charter provisions, the following pay raise amounts will go into effect: Mayor Ed Lee, $7,751 for a total of $272,103; District Attorney George Gascón, $13,375 for a total of $240,431; City Attorney Dennis Herrera, $3,729 for a total of $223,765; and Public Defender Jeff Adachi, $8,333 for a total of $217,574.

Since the calculation resulted in an average salary lower than the current salaries of the assessor-recorder, the sheriff and the tax collector, those will remain as is, $173,736, $208,403 and $169,332.

In previous years, elected officials had their pay reduced under a provision that requires the Civil Service Commission to lower salaries commensurate with union labor concessions. But economic times have improved and labor unions are no longer making concessions but instead beginning to see their pay increase under recently negotiated contracts.

This fiscal year, supervisors received a $98,469 salary, which was a 4.62 percent reduction from a set salary of $102,743.

The Civil Service Commission approved the salary changes this month.
