City College of San Francisco’s trustees selected an interim chancellor to fill in for retiring chief Don Griffin, the community college announced Monday.
Pamila Fisher will take the helm at City College on Wednesday.
Fisher, who was chancellor of the Yosemite Community College District from 1992 to 2004, has also served as board chair of the American Association of Community Colleges and as president of the California Association of Community Colleges.
In a statement, John Rizzo, president of the City College board of trustees, noted that Fisher will face challenges from her first day as she oversees assembly of the college’s 2012-13 budget.
“We are looking forward to working with Dr. Fisher to best serve our students in light of the most severe funding cutbacks the state has ever proposed,” Rizzo said.
Griffin announced in March that he would retire at the end of the year, but in April he told students and faculty that he was suffering from a brain tumor and would retire sooner than planned. He stepped down officially last week.
A national search will be conducted for a permanent chancellor.
