Police are looking for a driver who allegedly ran a red light in the Financial District early this morning and broadsided another vehicle, killing its occupant.

The collision happened just before 3:30 a.m. at California and Battery streets, police spokesman Sgt. Daryl Fong said.

A vehicle traveling southbound on Battery ran the red light at California, smashing into the driver’s side of a Lincoln Town Car going eastbound on California, according to Fong. Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene, he said.

The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the Town Car driver as Konstantin Perinsky, 65, of San Francisco.

Perinsky was the only one in the Town Car at the time, according to Fong.

The suspect driver, described only as “possibly a large male,” abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled, Fong said.

“He’s not been found,” Fong said.

Fong said he believed the suspect vehicle was a truck, and that investigators had towed it from the scene as evidence.

“They are following up on all evidence at the scene,” Fong said. “It’s an active investigation. They’re trying to identify and locate the suspect.”
