Authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding possibly several drivers who may have struck a San Francisco man on Interstate 280 in Daly City early Saturday and then left the scene of the deadly incident.
The victim was identified by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office as 27-year-old David Hanna.
The incident was reported about 4:30 a.m. just north of Eastmoor Avenue on southbound I-280, the California Highway Patrol said.
Hanna’s Toyota Camry had initially struck a sound wall on the right shoulder of the highway, CHP spokesman Tony Tam said. The cause of that crash is still under investigation. Hanna was the sole occupant of the Camry, Tam said.
“He gets out of the car and moments later, he is struck by a vehicle, and then struck by several more vehicles,” Tam said. “We don’t know how many ... we’re just looking for people who may have been driving in the area.”
Hanna’s body was found underneath a Jeep Cherokee that did stop at the scene. That driver, and a truck driver who also might have hit Hanna and came forward to the CHP later that day, were not arrested, Tam said.
The CHP is investigating a report that the female driver of a newer-model dark-blue Prius might have been one of the vehicles in the area at the time of the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the CHP at (800) TELL-CHP or the agency’s San Francisco office at (415) 557-1094.
