Although many of this year’s San Francisco mayoral candidates already had municipal jobs before they decided to run for The City’s top post, others are now seeking work.

And one of them has found it, at least for now.

Former Supervisor Bevan Dufty, who was a self-proclaimed professional candidate for more than a year, is now on the payroll of SamTrans and Caltrain — which are both part of the San Mateo County Transit District — as an interim community relations manager.

Dufty said he might hold the job for several months until a long-term opportunity arises. The former supervisor, who used to work for transit agencies in Southern California, said he has been approached with offers by entities in San Francisco, but not ones that involve City Hall positions.

Dufty was the only candidate to make nice during the campaign with the front-running Mayor Ed Lee after he reneged on his promise not to seek permanent office. The olive branch extension led opponents to accuse him of fishing for a job.

Dufty continually denied that was his motivation for being nice, and said his future remains up in the air.

“I’m a working guy, so we’ll see what unveils,” he said.
