Police arrested 95 protesters who stormed a downtown Bank of America branch Wednesday afternoon after putting up tents in the building — and urinating in a corner.
No injuries were reported, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.
Many at the bank Wednesday were students who said paying for public education was “theft” and it’s wrong for the California State University and University of California systems to raise tuition and fees.
“They don’t want to face the 99 percent,” UC Berkeley graduate student Charles Eaton said outside the California Street building.
The march was supposed to coincide with a UC regents meeting in The City, but the meeting was canceled due to fears of a violent protest.
“The 1 percent on the Board of Regents cancelled their meeting because we demanded they do the people’s business,” said a statement posted to Occupy SF’s website last week. “So now we’re going to where they do Wall Street’s business.”
Meanwhile, the tent that was erected inside the bank and housed 10 protesters for more than two hours went up for sale on eBay late Wednesday. The current bid as of press time was $225.92.
