Apple co-founder Steve Jobs died of respiratory arrest that was caused by a tumor in his pancreas, according to his death certificate that was obtained by Bloomberg News.

Jobs died Wednesday at his home in Palo Alto. He was 56.

Apple first announced Jobs death but did not say what the cause of death was. A statement from his family said that the tech guru died peacefully  surrounded by family.

The official cause of death is respiratory arrest caused by a pancreatic tumor, according to the Santa Clara County Public Health Department document obtained by Bloomberg News on Monday.

Jobs had battled pancreatic cancer for years and previously had a liver transplant.

A private funeral for Jobs was held in Santa Clara County on Friday, according to reports.

Bloomberg News is also reporting that Apple is planning an employee event on Oct. 19 to honor Jobs.
