A man was seriously injured when he was struck by a taxicab that ran a red light in San Francisco’s Mission district early Sunday, police said.

The accident was reported at 1:59 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Cesar Chavez and Guerrero streets.

The 22-year-old pedestrian was crossing Cesar Chavez Street in a crosswalk when he was hit by the cab, which was traveling east and ran a red light, according to police.

The pedestrian was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with head trauma and injuries that are considered life-threatening, police said.

The taxi driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with police. The driver, a 56-year-old man whose name was not immediately available, was not arrested, according to police.

The collision remains under investigation.
