University of California at San Francisco officials will celebrate the "topping out" of the new UCSF Medical Center at Misson Bay on Monday morning.

UCSF Chancellor Susan Desmond-Hellmann, Medical Center CEO Mark Laret and UCSF School of Medicine Dean Sam Hawgood will be among those honoring the construction team, community members and donors at a ceremony marking the installation of the center's final 1,600 pound structural steel beam, officials said.

The new $1.5 billion, 289-bed center will include facilities for children, women and cancer patients, and is scheduled to open in 2015. Construction began in October last year.
