A person hit was hit by a BART train in what BART officials believe to be a suicide attempt Sunday night, causing major delays on trains operating early Monday morning, BART officials said.

A Pittsburg/Bay Point-bound BART train operator reported at 11:20 p.m. that there was a person under the train at Colma station, BART spokesman Jim Allison said.

Electricity to the third rail was immediately shut down and BART police responded to the scene. At 11:56 p.m. the San Mateo County coroner's office was contacted.

Passengers on the train were evacuated to a separate train to proceed to their destination, Allison said.

All trains still operating at 12:30 a.m. Monday are experiencing major delays, including between Dublin/Pleasanton and Daly City, between Pittsburg/Bay Point and San Francisco International Airport, and between Richmond and Fremont.
