Car runs red light, strikes Golden Gate Transit bus

A Golden Gate Transit bus collided with a car that ran a red light in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood this morning, police said.

The bus was traveling south on Howard Street when the car ran a red light at the Fourth Street intersection and crashed into it at 8:54 a.m., police and Golden Gate Transit officials said.

The bus driver complained of back pain and was taken to a hospital, Golden Gate Transit spokeswoman Mary Currie said.

The car was totaled in the crash, police said.

The intersection was closed while San Francisco police and fire responded to the accident, but reopened by 9:57 a.m.
