BART trains were briefly delayed Sunday morning following reports of a fire in the Transbay Tube, but transit officials found no evidence of such a blaze and have now resumed regular service through the tunnel.

Spokesman Linton Johnson said that a BART operator saw what he thought was a fire on the side of the trackway going to San Francisco at about 8:45 a.m.

But following a complete inspection of the tube by the San Francisco Fire Department, the transit system was cleared to resume regular service through the tube in both directions.

Johnson said continued delays are expected for a while.
