Doyle Drive crash snarls traffic near the Golden Gate Bridge

Update: As of 2 p.m. all lanes of Doyle Drive have been reopened.

Traffic on the Doyle Drive approach to the Golden Gate Bridge was brought to a near standstill Tuesday afternoon beause of a multivehicle crash.

The crash in the San Francisco was reported at 12:30 p.m. just west of Marina Boulevard.

The crash involved a yellow compact car, a silver Mercedes sedan and a green Toyota SUV, according to the California Highway Patro. The Toyota was reportedly on its side.

Initial reports indicated that several vehicles were involved, California Highway Patrol Sgt. John Carman said. 

At least one ambulance was dispatched to the scene. It was not immediately known if there were any injuries sustained in the crash.

As of 12:50 p.m., southbound lanes were completely blocked and only one northbound lane was open, Carman said.

"It will be a mess for a while," he said.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
