A 16-year-old girl survived a plunge off the Golden Gate Bridge late Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Coast Guard Petty Officer David Font said the girl fell about 200 feet into the water from mid-span of the bridge at about 11 a.m.

“When we rescued her she was conscious,” Font said.

California Highway Patrol Sgt. Bryan Yops said the incident was believed to have been a suicide attempt. He said the girl was being treated for her injuries at Marin General Hospital.

Last month, a 17-year-old boy from Windsor survived a similar fall from the iconic bridge.

The Windsor High School student, who was on a field trip with other students on March 10, reportedly told a surfer who helped him to shore that he did it “for kicks.”
