Greg Suhr, a longtime officer of the San Francisco Police Department, was officially sworn in as the new chief of the department Wednesday morning.

Mayor Ed Lee swore in Suhr at San Francisco City Hall in a ceremony attended by several city officials.

Suhr, 52, most recently served as the captain of the Bayview Station, but he has been with the department for 30 years, serving in numerous roles.

The new chief takes over for Interim Chief Jeff Godown, who took the top job after former Chief George Gascon was appointed as the San Francisco district attorney. That post was vacated by Kamala Harris, who was elected California attorney general.
