A mishap at San Francisco Zoo made Time magazine’s list of Top 10 zoo escapes — and it wasn’t the tiger that mauled three visitors.

Instead, the magazine chose the 1964 escape of 13 buffalo, a 300-pound hippopotamus and an agouti at The City’s zoo, then known as Fleishhacker Zoo.

Apparently, the zoo director was not aware that the buffalo and hippo had dashed for freedom when police had captured the animals.

Time magazine compiled the list in light of recent news that a venomous Egyptian cobra had gone missing at the Bronx Zoo in New York.
