San Francisco has grown in 10 years – but only barely.
The U.S. Census 2010 began releasing California data Tuesday, including the population counted on April 1 last year. The Census pegged San Francisco’s population on that date at 805,235 – up about 28,500 people from the 776,733 counted on April 1, 2000.
That rate of increase is just 3.7 percent – far lower than most other counties in the state. Comparatively, Riverside County had a 41.7 percent increase.
San Francisco remains the fourth most populous city in the state, behind Los Angeles, SanDiego, and San Jose. However, it dropped in the ranks of the most populous county, from 11th to 13th. It wasbipassed by Kern and Ventura counties.
