A San Francisco native who plays for the Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers was honored at Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting for his accomplishments.

Desmond Bishop, 26, is a linebacker on the Packers, which won the NFL championship over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Feb. 6.

Bishop is also a native of San Francisco's Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood with a large family still living in the area. Many of his family members showed up at today's board meeting, where he was honored along with other community members as part of Black History Month commendations.

Supervisor Malia Cohen lauded Bishop for giving back to the community. He holds an annual youth football camp in the Bay Area, among other philanthropic efforts.

Board President David Chiu joked that the board should draft a resolution "saying we want the 49ers to bring Desmond home to San Francisco."

Bishop made a key play in the Super Bowl, recovering a fumble by Pittsburgh in the fourth quarter to help Green Bay hold on for a 31-25 victory.

He said the week since the game has been "crazy."

"It hasn't quite hit me yet," he said. "I think this is bigger than me as a person...I'm blessed to have this opportunity."

Players on both teams got 15 tickets each for friends and family to come to the game at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Bishop said that wasn't enough for his large and loving family from San Francisco.

"We used all 15 and other family came too," he said. "The Bishop family ran pretty deep there."
