Several momentary flickers in power service in the Western Addition on Tuesday afternoon have been resolved, according to a PG&E spokesman.

The power company began reporting power flickering — turning on and off — around 1 p.m., but power was fully restored by 1:27 p.m., Joe Molica, PG&E spokesman said.

The cause of the outages is unknown, but roughly 1,500 customers in the Western Addition neighborhood — between Fillmore and Spruce streets and Geary Boulevard and Washington Street — were affected.

Molica said the flickering seems to have occurred because of an “imbalance” in the area’s substation. An imbalance often occurs while work is being done in the area as crews switch power from one circuit to another.

Priority to restore full power and prevent future flickering of lights was the company’s priority, according to Molica. Crews remain on site to determine what exactly went wrong.
