Another meeting, another postponed decision on who should be San Francisco’s interim mayor.

Residents will have to wait at least until next Tuesday to learn who the Board of Supervisors will pick to fill the shoes left by Mayor Gavin Newsom when he bids farewell, most likely Jan. 3, to assume his statewide office as lieutenant governor. It takes at least six votes to appoint someone to the post.

Supervisor Chris Daly had previously suggested the board pick former board member and current Assemblyman Tom Ammiano for the job. Ammiano had indicated he didn’t want the post, and Tuesday issued a statement saying he declines any nominations.  

So Daly was prepared to go to his Plan B and nominate former board President Aaron Peskin, even though Daly said there weren’t six votes for him. But the board was opposed to even taking nominations and instead voted 9-2 to postpone possibly taking nominations to next week.

Supervisor John Avalos opposed the postponement along with Daly.
