As we speak, Rep. Paul Ryan hasn't yet held his press conference announcing his budget, but the left is already lining up to attack him.
Moments ago, I received a press release from the liberal activist group Campaign for America's Future entitled, “Ryan’s Roadmap to Ruin: Caters to the Wealthy & Would Bury the Middle Class.” In it, the group's co-director, Robert Borosage, declares:
“Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget plan will push rising health care costs onto those least able to afford them – the elderly, the disabled and the poor. It will do nothing to curb the rising costs imposed by the powerful complexes – insurance and drug companies, private hospitals – that now force Americans to pay twice per capita of any other industrial nation for worst results. At a time of Gilded Age inequality, with the wealthiest 1% capturing 25% of all income and paying a lower effective tax rate than the teachers of their children, it would stunningly lower top end tax rates for individuals and corporations.
“This is being hailed as courageous. It isn’t courageous; it is corrupt. It caters to the wealthiest Americans that finance campaigns, the powerful corporate lobbies that have deep pockets for politicians in and out of office. And it is a continued assault on an already sinking middle class, stripping them of what little security they are provided for a dignified retirement at the end of a long work life. Rep. Ryan is not charting America’s Future; he is burying the American Dream.”
