Muni driver in ‘serious condition’ after Marina District bus crash

A Muni driver was critically injured after the drivers’ bus veered off Lombard Street and crashed into the front of a local business Monday morning.

The Marina District crash left passengers with minor injuries, according SFPD.

The 28-19th Avenue bus was traveling eastbound on Lombard Street at about 5:42 a.m. and jumped the center divider, crossed oncoming lanes of traffic and struck a dry cleaning business on Lombard Street between Scott and Pierce streets, said San Francisco Police Department Sgt. Michael Andraychak.

The bus jumped the divider “for as yet to be determined reasons” Andraychak said.

The Muni bus driver was transported to a hospital in “serious condition,” according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

The bus snapped a tree in half and plowed into Priority Express Cleaners on Lombard Street. Officials could not immediately verify the extent of the damage.

A city inspector was called to evaluate the structural damage to the building, according to fire officials. The bus was towed from the scene just after 11 a.m.

The incident affected traffic in the area and buses and shuttles are being rerouted. Lombard Street’s westbound lanes between Scott and Pierce streets will remain closed until at least the early afternoon, according to police.

KTVU obtained dash cam footage of the crash from a driver in the area that showed the bus veering across oncoming lanes of traffic before crashing into the building.
