Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter Lauryn Hill announced a 29-stop, North American tour to commemorate the 20th anniversary of her debut album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.”

In August of 1998, “The Miseducation” debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and spent 81 weeks there. Additionally, Hill received 10 Grammy award nominations — making her the first woman to ever be nominated that many times in one year — and won five, including the prestigious album of the year award. Hill’s only solo album to date, “Miseducation” is largely recognized as her seminal work and praised for its deep introspect look at love and relationships, and it’s fluidity between hip-hop and R&B.

Hill plans to perform every song on the album on the tour which is set to kick off July 5 in Virginia Beach. The announcement of the tour was shortly after Hill’s performance at Nina Simone’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland this past weekend.

Tickets go on sale beginning Friday, and Hill’s Bay Area fans can catch her Sept. 20 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountainview.

Pro wrestling legend Bruno Sammartino dead at 82

Professional wrestling legend Bruno Sammartino is dead at the age of 82, the WWE announced Wednesday.

Sammartino, whose nickname was “The Living Legend,” had been hospitalized with various health issues for the past two months.

Sammartino, who lived in Pittsburgh, was one of the WWE’s most popular wrestlers in the 1960s and still is the company’s longest-reigning WWE heavyweight champion, when he held the belt for eight years. He first won the title in 1963 in front of nearly 20,000 fans at the old Madison Square Garden. According to the WWE, Sammartino sold out the new Madison Square Garden 187 times on cards that he headlined.

Sammartino retired from wrestling in 1981, but his popularity persisted as he became a WWE broadcaster in the 1980s just as the company was starting to take over the country’s wrestling market.

Sammartino was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.

Former WWE star Kurt Angle, who also is from Pittsburgh, posted his thoughts on his role model on Instagram.

“My hometown hero, Bruno Sammartino has passed,” Angle wrote. “I grew up watching Bruno. He was an amazing performer, who made his Pittsburgh natives proud. He was a champion’s champion. I got to know Bruno in his latter years, after he retired from the then WWF. He carried himself with dignity, and was always courteous to his fans. A true role model and hero. We will miss you Bruno.”
