Early morning Castro Street knife attack injures one

A 35-year-old man is suspected of punching a woman in the face and slashing a man with a knife in the Castro early Saturday.

Michael Gomez, of San Francisco, was arguing with a 27-year-old man when a 22-year-old woman stepped between them on Castro Street near Market Street around 3 a.m., Officer Albie Esparza said.

Gomez then allegedly punched the woman in the nose and sliced the man’s arm several times with a knife before fleeing on foot, police said.

But the wounded man and woman gave chase. At some point, Gomez allegedly punched the woman in the nose again.

Police responded to reports of a man with a knife and were flagged down by one of the victims, who pointed them to Gomez.

Gomez was booked into County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, battery, aggravated assault and a parole violation.

The injured man was taken to Davies Medical Center for treatment.
