The UC Berkeley football team and the Asian American Donor Program are working to save people’s lives, in the form of seeking marrow-stem cell donations.
UC Berkeley graduate Michelle Maykin, 26, who was happy and healthy until she was diagnosed with leukemia in 2007, is fighting for her life. The only possible cure is a marrow-stem cell transplant from a matching donor, and none of her family or friends are matches.
The volunteering process is simple, involving taking a tissue sample from the inside of the donor’s cheek. Individuals of mixed racial heritage or who are not Caucasian are encouraged to donate.
To volunteer, call (800) 593-6667 or visit www.aadp.org.
